As with many other types of hardwood decking, ipe hardwood decking is resistant to abrasion, rot and weather. Other benefits to ipe hardwood decking include:
- Nearly twice as dense as other types of woods
- Up to five times harder than other woods
- Class A fire rating (the same as steel and concrete)
- Available in long pieces that are virtually knot free and have very little warping
Ipe hardwood decking has a dark brown color that is similar to that of mahogany. Therefore, when you choose ipe hardwood, you get the same beautiful look as mahogany while also enjoying an even greater resistance to rot and decay.
As with other hardwoods, it turns a light gray color when left untreated and exposed to the weather. You can preserve the natural color of ipe hardwood decking, however, by simply applying a UV protective coating periodically. Of course, if you enjoy the look of naturally aged wood, you don't have to perform any type of maintenance at all and the deck will last for many years. Enjoy years of a beautiful, durable, strong deck.
