| Q: Why should I use
this product as we have never used it in the
past? |
|
| |
A: The reason
for using ROT-NOT Deck Protection System is to
protect your investment, while extending the
life of your deck. Since 2004, recent
changes have seen previously CCA (Chromate
Copper Arsenate) treated lumber to the present
lumber treated with ACQ (Alkaline Copper
Quaternary). ACQ has been found to
be highly corrosive to the fasteners and hangers
of your deck. In addition to the changes
in treatment procedures, market demands have
increased the supply and demand for lumber, so
we now are seeing the introduction of
genetically modified lumber. Although this
wood is grown quickly, it provides a new problem
as growth rings are now separated greatly, and
filled with pulp like fibers, rather than dense
fibers. The lumber of today is not the
same as the lumber of yesterday. |
|
| Q: Where do I buy this
product? |
|
| |
A: Presently
product is available on a direct purchase by
contacting ROT-NOT or by visiting your local
lumberyard. If your local lumberyard is
not presently carrying ROT-NOT Deck Protection
System, ensure that you get them to contact us
directly for distribution information.
Product is easily shipped via UPS (couriers) or LTL freight based on the volumes required.
Courier orders are usually received within three
days of order confirmation. |
|
| Q: Can any person install
this product, and are any special tools
required? |
|
| |
A: Any
individual can install Rot-Not. No special
tools are required other than the saw you are
using on site, and a caulking gun to seal
butting joints. |
|
| Q: How long will the product
last and will it need to be replaced at any
time? |
|
| |
A: Properly
installed, ROT-NOT Deck Protection System will
double the life of your deck. The UV
protection and PVC composite will sustain years
of freeze thaw and heat cycles, and should never
need replacing. If the ROT-NOT Deck
Protection System is not installed, you can be
sure that over the years your deck will suffer
and begin to show signs of rotting. |
|
| Q: Do I need to use this
product for my entire deck? |
|
| |
A: The ROT-NOT
Deck Protection System is designed to be a
system. The units that make up the system
provide protection to the vulnerable areas of
both your structure and planking.
Additional products are being reviewed to
address the railings and stair system. |
|
| Q: Where the joists meet the
header there is wood-to-wood contact. Does
ROT-NOT have product that remedies this issue? |
|
| |
A: Where the
joists meets the header, or commonly referred to
as the ledger board, ROT-NOT Ledge Cap protects
the ledger board by shedding water over the
outside edge. Moisture penetration is most
commonly found where water is gathered or
sitting on either the joist or the ledger board.
The ends that are exposed to moisture have found
to have little if no absorption. |
|
| Q: Does it matter if I
install the system when the wood is wet? |
|
| |
A: As the main
components of the system are installed on the
structure and below the planking, installing the
ROT-NOT Deck Protection System when the wood is
wet will not be a problem. The patented
channel design, which allows the lumber to
breathe, once dried, will not be susceptible to
moisture ever settling on it again. So
there should be no delays due to rain! |
|
| Q: How much extra time will
it take to install the decking system? |
|
| |
A: The actual
units come in 8' lengths. Simply "SNAP"
over the designated areas and the pieces will
remain snug until covered. The Ledger Cap
will only require the time to run a bead of
caulking the length of the shoulder. |
|
| Q: How do I cut the pieces of
the ROT-NOT? |
|
| |
A: The units
that make up the system can easily be cut by
either a hacksaw or using a saw on site.
The ideal method is using a chop-saw if
available. Always USE SAFETY GLASSES. |
|
| Q: Will it change the color
like my deck over the years? |
|
| |
A: Everything in
life fades to some degree. The components
of the ROT-NOT Deck Protection System are
produced with UV prohibitors and will change
color by occasional staining rather than
discoloration. The units themselves are
not considered as visual components. |
|
| Q: Why wouldn't using a
sealer or paint accomplish the same thing as
ROT-NOT |
|
| |
A: Sealers and
paints are only temporary fixes to what should
be permanent and maintenance free solutions.
Sealers and paints cannot reach the areas that
are most critical to moisture build up - where
the actual pieces encounter each other.
ROT-NOT also allows the wood to breathe, which
is vital to the lifespan of the lumber. |
