BRISTOL, Connecticut — November 27, 2006 — Tiger Claw Inc. today announced that the University of Texas at Tyler, has completed a 4,000 square-foot lakeside deck using Tiger Claw hidden deck fasteners. The deck was built using MoistureShield® professional grade composite decking and Tiger Claw TC-3 hidden deck fasteners. UT Tyler was committed to using a hidden deck fastener system for the project.

“We wanted to take advantage of the beautiful environment at UT Tyler and provide a state park-like setting for the students to enjoy between classes,” said Gregg Lassen, Vice President for Business Affairs. “The site for the deck was a heavy traffic area. We wanted the deck to be understated, durable yet pristine. And we wanted the highest quality deck so we chose composite decking and Tiger Claw. It has been an overwhelming success.”

Lassen hired Terrel, Texas, builder Richard Overturf, of Overturf Construction. Lassen had the vision for the deck but left it up to Overturf to figure out how to work with steeping slopes and land juts over the lake. Overturf also had to deal with the main water line that ran under the deck location. He couldn’t use machinery to move dirt and so he and a crew of three did it by hand. And finally, it was his first time using Tiger Claw hidden deck fasteners.

“I had experience using hidden deck fasteners in the past but they were hard to work with,” said Richard Overturf, Overturf Construction. “You generally had to be under the structure in order to install them. Anytime you can stay on top of the deck, that’s where you want to be. Once we got started with Tiger Claw, it was a piece of cake. I’ve built a lot of decks with nails and screws, and you’re always knocking them back down and screwing them back in. With Tiger Claw, you don’t have to worry about that.”

The deck has two levels and about 25 tables. Overturf even used Tiger Claw hidden deck fasteners for the benches. He has since built a small, similar deck at the Harvey Lake Taco Bar.

“I do a lot of projects on campus. Every time I walk by the decks I hear compliments about how nice it is,” said Overturf. “It’s very gratifying.”

Tiger Claw’s patented fastener design has a simple “topside” installation. Constructed from hardened heavy gauge stainless steel that’s compatible with new pressure treated chemicals for lumber, these unique fasteners offer outstanding hold-down power and ease-of-use. They create a smooth “nail-free” surface, which preserves the beauty of the wood and reduces splitting, splintering, cupping, and rotting.
