Underdeck Installation
Underdeck Installation 1. Prime and Paint the ledger board and Rim Joist to match the Underdeck product! This is an attractive way to finish the ends of the system. This is a better option than wrapping the lumber with roll stock flashing that may hold moisture.
Underdeck Installation 2. Make sure that the gap between the joist rails does not exceed 2 inches. A larger gap may encourage a wave to appear in the collector panel. This will be seen as a shadow between the collector panel and the joist gutter.
3. When installing collector panels make sure to leave a ¼ gap between the end of the collector panel and the outside rim of the deck for expansion.
Underdeck Installation 4. At house end of collector panel cut a small amount of the panel away at both sides at the corners so the panel does not interfere with the joist hangers.
5. When collector panel is installed – house side may need to be scribed for a tighter fit, lay a carpenters pencil flat against the ledger board and scribe a line across the entire panel, cut the panel where the line has been scribed and push panel back tight to ledger board.
Underdeck Installation 6. On joist gutter at house side for a tighter fit to the ledger board cut a small portion off the flanges back at a 45 degree angle.
Underdeck Installation 7. On opposite side of joist gutter cut 4 to 5 - 1/8 inch tabs to prevent water from making it's way back up the bottom of the joist gutter as it's draining out.
8. For a cleaner look where the panel meets the ledger board you can run a small bead of matching caulk along the entire arch of the panel.
9. If waves appear along the collector panel, pull the panel out of the rail where the pucker exists, trim away panel starting with about an 1/8 inch along the entire length of the rail and push panel back into rail, if puckering still occurs continue to cut out small portions until the wave goes away
